Privacy Policy for NHAI Defect Validation Extension

This Privacy Policy describes how the NHAI Defect Validation & Verification Tool ("the Extension") handles data. The Extension is developed as a quality assurance and road survey auditing utility for project engineers and quality assurance teams working with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) road survey assets.

1. Data Collection and Usage

The Extension operates primarily as a client-side productivity tool. We practice strict data minimization:

• Google Sheets Data: The extension accesses only the specific Google Spreadsheets authorized by the user to read road defect universes and write audit markings. No spreadsheet data is stored on external commercial servers or shared with unauthorized third parties.
• No Personal Tracking: We do NOT collect, transmit, or store personally identifiable information (PII) such as personal browsing history, personal communications, or personal device identifiers.
• No Sale of Data: We do not sell, rent, or transfer any user or project data to third-party data brokers or advertising networks.

2. Permissions Justification

• Identity: Used strictly for OAuth 2.0 authentication to allow users to securely connect to Google Sheets API under their own credentials.
• Storage: Used locally on the user's browser via chrome.storage.local to save user preferences, such as last selected tab names and active session settings.
• ActiveTab & Tabs: Used to detect active Google Spreadsheet tabs and launch review dashboards in dedicated browser tabs.
• Host Permissions & DeclarativeNetRequest: Used to load inspection dashcam image frames from the designated local survey viewer server and map tiles from OpenStreetMap.

3. Security

All communication with Google APIs and authorized cluster endpoints is encrypted using industry-standard TLS/HTTPS protocols. Local data remains stored securely within the browser's sandboxed storage.
